Church Programs & Groups
The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Stockton offers a number of groups and programs serving our members and friends as well as the larger community.
Adult Religious Education
We offer various classes and workshops throughout the year. Please click
here to download our Adult Religious Education brochure for 2009-10.
Book Group
The book group meets monthly at the church, on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. All are invited to join the discussion. Recent selections include
Between Two Worlds, Proust Was a Neuroscientist, and Three Cups of Tea.
To find out what the current book of the month is, please email bookgroup @stocktonuu.org.
Men’s Group
The Men’s Group meets the first and third Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. and is open to all men who are friends or members of the church. Discussions vary, and members often bring ideas and topics to share.
For more information, please email mensgroup @stocktonuu.org.
Robert E. Green Memorial Scholarship
Each year the church awards a scholarship of $1000 to a graduating high school senior planning to continue their education in the fall following their graduation. The scholarship honors the church’s former minister the Rev. Robert E. Green and is given on the basis of a student’s involvement in community service and contributions to the well-being of people, as well as academic achievement.
Shawl Ministry
Anyone who knits or crochets, or would like to learn, is invited to join the
Shawl Ministry. Members create shawls to be given to persons both within and
beyond the church as an expression of love and caring from our church community.
We hope these shawls will sustain people who are facing serious illness or other
difficulties and will honor those who are celebrating a special life occasion.
For information about the next meeting, please email shawlministry @stocktonuu.org.
Social Justice Collections
On the third Sunday of each month, we donate our entire collection to a nonprofit organization whose work reflects the values and mission of the church. Recipients have included the Heifer Project, Western Farm Workers, the Stockton/San Joaquin Emergency Food Bank, and the Women’s Center of San Joaquin County.
To suggest a recipient, please contact the
president of our Board of Trustees.
Unitarian Universalist Alliance
Since 1914, the UU Alliance has sponsored social and educational events and served the church through fundraising and other service projects. The UU Alliance is affiliated with the
Unitarian Universalist Women’s Federation and is open to all church members.
For more information, please email alliance @stocktonuu.org.
